Press Release
Cambrians for Aquatics Pool Update - June 24, 2022
Greetings and News from Cambrians for Aquatics
We hope your summer is off to a great start. We have some very promising news, but we need your help.
The good news is that we have, at last, found the ideal place for a multi-purpose community pool in Cambria. As you may know, this has been a 10-year quest. Interestingly, we’re back to where we originally started, working with Coast Unified to develop our plans for a pool at the High School on Santa Rosa Creek Road.
There’s a spot adjacent to Leffingwell classrooms, big enough for a 25-meter pool with locker rooms, enclosed but openable. There’s plenty of parking and the location meets other conditions for a project like this: access to school district water and access to the school district’s sewer system. And it’s a beautiful spot.
The pool would be designed to accommodate a wide range of activities, including lap swimming, water aerobics, swimming lessons for all ages, lane walking, beginning scuba lessons, and open swim time.
We have developed a draft memo of understanding (MOU) with the School District, which will be on the September 8 School Board meeting agenda for the Board’s consideration. It will be extremely important for the Board members to see a strong interest in the pool project shown by a wide range of Cambrians and people who live in San Simeon.
We will need you at the September 8 meeting to show your support -- just by being there--and if you wish, by speaking for the project.
Because it’s been a while since Cambrians for Aquatics has gotten together, we want to invite you to a casual meeting sometime in July or August. We’d like to answer your questions and hear your thoughts and ideas. The meeting will either be at a Cambrians for Aquatics board member’s home or, if a larger space is needed, at the Vets Hall or Joslyn Center on Main Street.
Would you be interested in attending such a meeting? We’re thinking of Wednesday, July 20 or Tuesday, July 26 at 4 p.m. Would either of these days work for you?
Please let us know which date you would prefer by email today: cambriansforaquatics@gmail.com.
Thank you so much for your continued interest in this very important project.
